What are the causes of Hair loss?

My 17 year old daughter is suffering from it for 2 years, so far. Her hair is thinning out and she's losing too much hair at her age. What may be the cause of this? She has also begun to ';flake out';. Why is this happening? What could be done about it?What are the causes of Hair loss?
What causes excessive hair loss?

Stress from an illness or a major surgery

Hormonal problems

Childbirth

Medication (s)

Infection(s)

Underlying disease

I agree with taking her to doctor but these might be some reasons why she is losing hair :

1: lots of stress , causes hairloss , make sure she is not stressed .

2: bad hair care , does she use hair ions e.g hair straightners ? does she use hair drier most the time to style her hair ? these are very bad for the health of hair and should be avoided for daily use ! ( make sure she doesnt highlight her hair too often )

3: bad shampoo , she should try different shampoos and see which one is the best .

4: Does she take shower everyday ? , everyday shower is bad for hair , if this is her routine and she likes it tell her not to use shampoos every day , she may wash her body but washing her hair with shampoo daily is bad for her hair .

very important to pay attention to her diet , bad diet causes hair loss. her diet should contain protein.

';The hair is comprised mostly of protein. To encourage hair growth, adhere to a diet rich in protein. A recommended diet for this purpose includes calves liver, brewer's yeast, wheat germ, and two tablespoons of granulated lecithin. Along with protein, these foods are also high in B vitamins, an important nutrient for hair.( http://holisticonline.com/Remedies/Hair//a> )';

How about some hair care products ? I used to suffer from hair loss when i was her age but i started using hair care Oils ( snake oil , local product ) , Im sure there are good hair care products around , they might smell and look scary but they are very good for the hair !
Hair loss is caused by many reasons such as malnutrition, illness, tension and other health problems.It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of a cycle of growing new hairs and loosing some. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.
Amazingl, you mentioned that her diet is good. I suggest you double check it again with info on this page just to be sure:
