4 months ago,my barber informed me that i was lossing hair on the back side of my head.At that time the spot (hairless) was of 1';square.now it has grown into a spot of 3';square.Although i am taking treatment from a skin specialist for the last 2 month but it seems that the treatment is not working.I am 40 yrs old %26amp; live in India.the skin specialist does not tell me exact/probable cause of this problem. This is not the genetic problem I know.Treatment by skin specialist is as follows:2.5 tablets of wysolone of 20 mg on wed %26amp; thursday (each week) after breakfast,1 tab of biotin daily,1 cap of oxyma a/d 1 tab of pepsia on wed %26amp; thursday (each week) in the early morning (without having breakfast),folica hair tincture to apply thrice in a day on the affected area.Since wysolone is a steroid I am afraid that it can be harmful (a physician has informed me).Now I am in a fix not able to think that whether i should continue the treatment or not.Can any specialist help me ?Actual cause of hair loss on the back side of my head %26amp; precise treatment for it?
Alopecia areata is hair loss of unknown cause, characterized by round patches of complete baldness.

The specific cause of alopecia areata is unknown. A family history of alopecia is present in about a fifth of all cases. Alopecia areata is occasionally associated with autoimmune diseases.

Alopecia may also occur as alopecia totalis with complete loss of scalp hair or as alopecia universalis with total loss of all body hair.

The primary symptom of alopecia areata is roundish patches of hair loss on the head, with smooth, hairless scalp in the affected areas. Alopecia totalis involves the complete loss of all scalp hair, and alopecia universalis is characterized by the complete loss of all scalp and body hair.

No fully effective treatments are available. Typical therapy includes:

Topical corticosteroids (medium to very high potency)

Subcutaneous (under the skin surface) steroid injection

Skin specialist will not be able to help you. If it is hereditary, you will have to live with it. Otherwise, you need constitutional treatment. Consult a homoeopath.
