I was on zoloft for a few years for anxiety and it worked okay but not too great (probably because I got used to it after a few years)...so I switched to lexapro. I have been on lexapro for 2-3 weeks already and am reading stuff online that lexapro can cause hair loss. Anyone have experience w/ this or w/ taking lexapro? Thanks!Does lexapro cause hair loss?
I've been on lexapro for two years and it really has helped with anxiety attacks. Take biotin if you find your losing hair, it's cheap, you can buy it at walmart or a grocery store and it helps grow your hair.
To answer your question....I don't have a problem with hair lossDoes lexapro cause hair loss?
I take 2.5 mg Lexapro for TMJ problems (1 year off and on the med when symptoms flare up) and I I have noticed that I've been losing more hair than usual, but I've got a lot of hair to begin with so it hasn't bothered me too much. But the really weird thing is that my hair had been straight my whole life and now it's got this weird frizzy/wavy texture, but only in the back. I never had this until I started with the Lexapro and I'm not on any other meds or supplements at this time.
So, yeah, it sounds like this isn't the right med for you if you're losing so much hair that it's bothering you.
As an aside, I don't know if it's the Lexapro or life in general, but I put on about 15 lbs. after I started this stuff and I can't seem to shake it. I've tried going off the med but my TMJ gives me excruciating migraines, earaches, teeth pain, jaw pain, face pain, neck pain, you name it, so in the end the 15 lbs doesn't seem so bad and this SSRI is the only treatment that has worked to alleviate my temporomandibular joint disorder.
I have been on lexapro for 2 years plus and no hair loss. I have found it to be useful. Coming off it is hard as with most I am guessing- dizziness and headaches.
Try not to read too much online most of it is untrue and will just scare you. Everyone's physiology is different so the medication will be tolerated as such.
