I've lost 32kg in the past 6 months after being overweight all my life...I excersise everyday...My eating habits have changed...I don't eat as much or the same foods I used to...
I went to a dermatologist and he told me that the hair loss is due to weight loss but I'm not convinced...He said it's something that is self correcting and will go back to normal hair growth when I've finished losing the weight...
One thing that is strange though is that the hair loss did start a couple of moths after i started to lose weight...
He said my hair loss doesn't match that of normal male pattern hair loss because the hair loss is all around my head...Not really on the sides and back though...
Are there any other men who have experienced this type of hair loss?
I'm a 23 year old male...Can losing a significant amount of weight cause hair loss?
i would of thought it would be down to lack of nutrients as your diet has changed and your body has used what it has stored and just needs to adapt but if you start getting fatigue i would get some serious help and get it quick. your body is obviously lacking in something if it only started to happen with the weight lossCan losing a significant amount of weight cause hair loss?
Hi,
It depends in what way you lost the kilograms.
If you did it in a healthy way (and it seems like you did), then it is quite strange.
But, it might be as well true what your doctor said. Your body is going through lots of changes and trying to adjust.
I would however contact a doctor and see whether there are any other things to check just to be safe.
Yes unfortunately. Sudden change. Body trying to adapt. Same thing happens here when I quited smoking for a few months.
Go see a trichologist - they are the hair people :)
Yes it may be is possible. You need to take care of your hair too. Do you dye your hair?????
Hair dye also result in hair loss.
Firstly congratulations on losing an incredible amount of weight, well done.
What you didn't sy is how you lost the weight? To advise you better or to give you a better answer you need to give us a more concise question with all the relevant information.
You say your eating habits have changed but what are they. Changed does not necessarily mean for the the better even if you have lost weight.
Do you have enough essential fatty acids in your diet? Without these your hormones will go out of whack and you will lose your hair. This is a common side effect of a low fat diet as you restrict the good fats your body needs (and can not make)as well as the bad fats hence a common side effect (hair loss) among other things.
Do some research on essential fatty acids. Add them back into your diet in moderate amounts and your health and your hair will thank you for it. BUT, don't expect changes over night. When you body is deficient in nutrients, it will take months for the benefits to show when you reintroduce them back into your diet.
Oily fish, Nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil......
It may not be the answer you wanted but I hope it helps.

First, let me say good for you for taking control of your life. It is a big step and you've made an impressive difference.
It is not uncommon. The main reason is that you are taking in fewer nutrients that your body needs, so it has diverted the resources it has to more important functions - like muscles and organs - rather than growing hair. Taking a multivitamin might help somewhat. Revisiting your diet might also be a good idea. See if there are any holes you've left in nutrition that need to be covered.
You've lost 32 kg in 6 months (lets say 26 weeks). That's a bit more than is normally considered healthy, but not ridiculously over, so no worries there. But you might consider slowing that down just a bit to 1/2 to 1 kg per week. Maybe add another 100-150 calories per day back into your diet. If you are not getting enough calcium, perhaps as a glass of low-fat milk (lots of good stuff in milk).
But all in all, I wouldn't fret too much if I were you. As long as your are eating well and exercising, everything will be better.
