Can coloring your hair cause hair loss?

Last year I colored my hair using a temporary formula that I bought in the drug store. I didn't bleach it or anything, just used a burgundy color. For the next few months I noticed that hair would fall out when I washed it. I'm not saying I went bald, but I did lose some hair, although I don't think it was obvious. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is normal. And is it permanent, or will it come back? Can coloring your hair cause hair loss?
yesCan coloring your hair cause hair loss?
2 words ... conditioning and prayer.
no hair loss is caused either genetics or stress. dying is nevr good if you do it all the time, 1x month is not bad but if you change the color too drastically you will have to dye it more so do so either with highlights or just enough that as your hair grows it wont show so much that you can wait till next month or whenever you want a change again.

i have been dying for years and do so 4 x a year i have never had any promblems

you also need to change your shampoos though too, for the first 2 weeks you need a color gaurd and enriching conditioner this may help if not consult a hair dresser that you trust
Yes - I had a friend that colored her hair like every week during school. The last day her hair was gray and falling out gross.
no because I used to color my hair for years and years and I have a thick head of hair to this day
certain brands of color may indeed cause hair loss.
Some people have trouble with hair color. I would not recommend using any color if you did notice a hair loss. Do perms have an effect on you. Maybe ask the person who cuts your hair his/her opinion?
WOW--really depends if you used a temp-or was it perm-and where you under any stress sometimes this affects it and also where u on any medication all things can play a factor in this --got o a salon that can help you ar check out a dermatologist who perhaps may can help u better or stay from the hair color and use hair extensions 1st
yes. i ahve been dying my hair for like 10 years. every 4 months. i used to have thick curly hair but now it is thin and straight. i get hands full after a bath
Only they not well branded products..

but any of those can still affect to hair loss, if u can sensitive skin and are not used to harmfull/chemical based products...

But intially a certain amount to hair loss is definite..so yes its normal..

but dont worry..your hair will grow back...
coloring your hair may cause a little hair loss. I had the same problem when I use to dye my hair all the time. Stress can also cause your hair to fall out. My advice, color your hair once in a great while and avoid getting stressed out over little things.
No, coloring your hair cannot hair loss.
Chances are, if it was strong enough to damage your hair, it would probably irritate your scalp as well. If your hair is long, it would look like you were losing more, than if your hair was shorter.
Thanks for asking this question. I am having a problem, too and i just got my hair streaked and they used bleach. the problem is that i am not happy with it!!! And i am losing my hair!!! Thanks to robotica77 i will do what she suggested. I think that is ur best answer here!! I just hope i can fix this mess!!! Good luck with yours'.
I color my hair a lot and I have the same problem. Don't know if it's normal or not, but it happens to me too. I haven't went without coloring my hair long enough to see if it's permanent or not.
it could just be due to hormones - i dye my hair all the time and i go through stages where it will fall out excessively for a period and then not at all for ages

i have taken fertility drugs in the past in an attempt to become pregnant and i dont know if it was stress or hormones but it fell out a lot then

talk to your doctor but my experience is that stress or hormones can affect hair loss
it all depends on the strength of your hair...i wear red in my hair and i have no problems but sometimes color can be really harsh and red is a harsh color. try to keep your hair conditioned really well with a leave in.
yea,it can cause your hair to come out it happened to me about two years ago I had some long hair my hairdresser thought that the color we used would look great in my hair she has always told me to never bleach my hair because it would has a lot of damage to my hair,so we chose to just color it and Continued to go to her and before we knew anything my hair Begin to fall out we tried everything but nothing worked I just let her cut it real short know it is growing back real good and healthy it's on my showders again we have decided never to color it again she has been there fore me I been her client even before she went to school to do hair she started doing my hair at our houses in the bathroom with box kits my hair is growing back just fine and I hope yours come back also girlfriend you might have to do like me and stay away from the color thing yes it should come back
No! not at all!
I have been dying my hair for eight years now. The only times I notice a dramatic hair loss is when I bleach my hair. You can also do a hair test. There should be directions for that on any hair coloring system. If you want to dye your hair again, I suggest that you go to a beauty salon and have them do it professionally.

i dont think you can loose hair by colouring once
Probably
i do not think you can loose hair from coloring it.
It can cause your hair to fall out..

Any of that crap is full of chemicals that are unnatural to your body.. Your hair is beautiful the way God intended.. Those chemicals sink into your skin as well.. Every time you dye, curl, hair spray, heat, iron, tint, or perm, it damages your hair.. {:-)

hair will fall obviouly and it will fall more if u apply dem in ur hair roots
it's probably because the formula is that cheap stuff, and it did something to your hair, it should grow back when the formula wears off
yes bitc.h.!!!!!!
Hair loss is common in the shower. The only time when your hair falls off because of your dyeing it is only when you overuse it.
shouldn't have done that, unless you had an allergy, but not likely on a semi colour. It might be that you noticed more as your hair is a different colour.
Don't leave the color on too long. 20 minutes is enough. But if your scalp is sore or there is a problem with it don't put color on it until it's all well.
