I have dieted off and on for the past two years, mainly weight watchers. I would be very strict during the week keeping under my points and then taking a day off on the weekend. I have lost fat %, but not pounds. Unfortunately, I have lost quite a bit of hair as well. Even though I didn't lose weight could the hair loss still be due to the restriction of calories and protein?Could dieting over a prolonged time without success, still cause hair loss?
Extreme dieting, especially with inadequate protein and nutrients is just one of the many possible causes of female hair loss. If you are experiencing excessive shedding you should consider all the possibilities to try to determine the particular cause. In many cases there is more than one contributing factor. Possibilities include starting or stopping any medication, recent illness especially if high fever was involved, trauma, surgery, extreme stress, flu shot etc.... Hair loss is also a symptom of many medical conditions. The manner in which hair is lost also provides clues to the type of hair loss.
See resource below to learn about causes and types of female hair loss. or see this article on female hair loss tp://ezinearticles.com/?Common-Causes-ofbr>
Essential oils such as basil, rosemary , peppermint etc are very effective at stimulating new growth and minimizing loss.Could dieting over a prolonged time without success, still cause hair loss?
What you are suffering from is Telogen Effluvium which is a fancy name for losing your hair due to stress. When the body stresses, emotionally or physically, due to a traumatic experience, either severe weight loss or other experience, large numbers of hairs go into the resting stage and eventually fall out. Typically, the hair will grow back when the stress has been removed but sometimes it may not come back
By going through this regimen of ';on diet, off diet'; your body is getting stressed out. Dieting isn't a case of eating less - or more - it's a case of eating right. Eat plenty of veg and fruit as well as fish to get a good balance and stick to it. You can still eat chocolate cake - but in moderation.
Jenny Craig is only one piece of the puzzle. Calories are not the be all and end all. Just by only following calories (points) you lose half in muscle as well.
About hair loss. We need phytosterols. It is a phytochemical found in leafy green raw organic vegetables, cherries, and many organic raw foods. Why are they important?
Phytosterols feed our hormones. We cannot manufacture hormones on our own. We need them to produce signals for hair growth.
Chances are, you are malnourished.
You are deficient.
You need a balanced meal, three times a day with the right fat intake. The ';good'; fats, plenty of protein, fresh fruits, veggies and water are what keep us healthy inside and out. I'm sure you've lost muscle and tissue as well as your hair.
You have to have a healthy diet to look after your body, I would make sure you have a good variety of vitamins and minerals which will keep your hair healthy.
i'd see a dr about that.
